SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rep. Steve Handy, R-Layton, would like to see Utah’s dark skies represented on the state’s license plates.
HB0198 would create a new standard-issue license plate called the Utah Dark Sky license plate.
Utah has several plates representing the state in different ways, including the Life Elevated Arches plate, the Live Elevated Skier plate, and the license plate with the motto, “In God We Trust.”
The Beehive State also issues dozens of special plates that include groups such as autism awareness, Gold Star, veterans, and Utah’s colleges and universities.
Utah has 20 locations designated as an International Dark Sky Place — eight state parks, four national parks, six national monuments, North Fork Park in Weber County and the town of Helper.
