Darren Shahlavi Dead: Mortal Kombat Martial Artist Dies at 42

Darren Shahlavi, a martial artist best known for playing Kano on the TV show Mortal Kombat: Legacy, has died, his agent confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 42 years old.

According to THR, Shahlavi passed away at his home on Jan. 14. A cause of death has not been given, but TMZ reports that toxicology tests are under way.

Born in England, Shahlavi found steady work in Hollywood in the 1990s and 2000s. In addition to acting on Mortal Kombat, he was a stuntman for movies including The Chronicles of Riddick, 300, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

More recently, he had a small role as a genie hunter on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and as Constantine Drakon in the 2012 pilot for the CW's DC Comics-inspired show Arrow.

Stephen Amell, who plays the title role on that series, tweeted his condolences over Shahlavi's death on Tuesday, Jan. 20, noting their brief but memorable time together.
