One local hair salon in Blair County is going against Governor Wolf's order to remain closed.

Tame Your Mane, located in East Freedom, first reopened on May 1st. Owner Julie Potter says she had no choice but to save her salon.

"Since Friday, we've done nothing but put smiles on peoples faces," says Potter.

Potter called the reopening an "SOS", a 'save our salon'. She believes she should have never had to close her doors in the first place.

"We should have our constitutional right to do as we please. If you break a law that's one thing, but give me the law that this is in violation of. I've been asking since the beginning what law are am I breaking?" says Potter.

Blair County is still in the red phase of Governors Wolf's reopening process, and is not scheduled to move to yellow.

Business has been as usual inside of Tame Your Mane, today the salon has many customers coming in and out.

Some customers and employees were wearing masks. Potter says in beauty school they learned a lot about cleanliness, so her salon has always been thoroughly cleaned after each customer.

"I think we should be open. I think all businesses are essential. Everyone is going to tell you something different. I can say five things that are essential to me and it might not be the same as you," says Potter.

This year is the salons 25th anniversary and employees say they were not going to have to close down because of the pandemic.

"I think people who haven't walked in a small businesses shoes should never say you shouldn't have done it," says Potter.

Tame Your Mane has 31 employees and seven of them have not returned to work since the reopening. Potter says she respects their decision. On the salons Facebook page it is noted that they are currently hiring.
